DON'T TELL ME HOW MY BLOOD SHOULD LIVE

ABOUT
The Luperca Longclaw are a shifter tribe that make their home in the dark, dense trees of the Ulvenwald. Despite the howlpacks that rove alongside their territory (and occasionally push the limits) they do not associate themselves with true werewolves. That said, they are themselves largely wolf were-touched, and similarly bound by lunar cycles. ("Werewolf" is only okay for Ashling to call herself, okay?). The Luperca are difficult to find for outsiders, and even harder to join without family affiliation, though once in a while fresh blood finds them in the tangle and survives the encounter. Good luck to those that do! The clan's customs and mythology make little sense without birthright, and are particularly inscrutable if you haven't spent half your life on four legs. What's obvious is that they are matriarchal, fond of thieving, fighting and hunting, and deeply attuned to the setting. Outside of the Ulvenwald and immediate surroundings, one is hard-pressed to find evidence of their existence at all.
Ashling is a born clan daughter. Her mothers raised her as well as they could, but the world of the Luperca is small and dark and not exactly crawling with mages. She needed more than what they or any of her elders could give (the mangy lot). Laden with blessings, Ashling and two non-magical sisters traveled to "civilization," where they struggled and observed and marveled and scoffed in search of resources. None had any idea how to access better mentorship than that of regulars in public libraries and taverns. That is, until they attempted to rob one of the latter. Ashling's ability to open locked doors with magic was notable to the kindly old keep, who patiently helped her apply to Strixhaven and seared her (ravenous; angry) sisters fresh venison steaks. Said they reminded him of his daughters, whatever that meant. Anyway, they thanked him profusely but returned two nights later to kill several of his chickens and steal a flagon of mead.
As it turned out, no Luperca Longclaw has ever made it to Strixhaven before, let alone any Ulvenwald "werewolf" that the aforementioned elders can recall. Ashling could be the one to found Ulvenwald archaeology as a discipline! If she can get the hang of living among One-Shapes and listening to the things they say, anyway.

appearance
Various scarring along the limbs, with a notable slash across the nose that makes her shift recognizable. Intricate tattooed pattern along collarbone (blue ink; butterfly motif). Multiple piercings in ears. Going prematurely white, like most of her sisters.
Ashling's wardrobe splits emphasis between practicality and parading of pretty trophies: part stolen, part scavenged, part shiny. Feminine but ragged. Her upkeep is generally not pristine, and her presence is not subtle despite the ability to slink around mostly unnoticed. She has an unexpectedly deep voice and a barking laugh.
As a wolf, Ashling is grey and cream colored.
